Yemen’s president, Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, has appointed the country’s envoy to the United Nations, Khaled Bahah, as prime minister, according to an aide.
The move is expected to help ease a political crisis sparked by Houthi rebels capturing Sanaa last month.
The aide said Bahah’s name was among three proposed by the Houthi group last week after they rejected an earlier appointment as prime minister of the president’s office director, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, forcing him to turn down the nomination.
